Holmén lopettaa uransa kilpajuoksijana

Euroopan mestari Janne Holmén lopettaa hienon juoksu-uransa.

Yksi upeimmista penkkiurheiluelämyksistäni on ehdottomasti Jannen kultajuoksu Münchenin EM-maratonilla 2002! Kiitos!

Etiopian Meselech Melkamu juoksi naisten kaikkien aikojen toiseksi kovimman ratakympin 29.53,80 Utrechtissa sunnuntaina.

Renato Canova kertoi kilpailusta näin:

I was yesterday in Utrecht, having in the race Florence Kiplagat and Sylvia Kibet, the pacers (that were not able to pace...), and Nicholas Kemboi coming back after 4 years in a competition. The conditions were perfect, with 16 degrees, no wind (during the race of men ther was some wind) and a very good track. This is not a meeting, but a "Festival of 10000m", with other shows and a very funny and relaxed atmosphere. The men race was at 9:15 pm, women at 10:15.The first lap was in 69.8 with Ruth Bosibori pacing, but during the second the pace slowed down too much (1:15.2), so at 800m Melkamu went directly in front, running 3 following laps in 69 and opening a gap with the other runners, apart Ayelew that tried to stay with her.I supposed Meselech was crazy, but after she was able to continue with the same pace, completely alone.

These are the splits of Melkamu : 3'00"2 - 5'56"8 (2'56"6) - 8'52"2 (2'55"4)- 11'50"2 (2'58") - 14'48"6 (2'58"4) - 17'50"4 (3'01"8) - 20'52"6 (3'02"2) - 23'53"4 (3'00"8) - 26'55"2 (3'01"8) - 29'53"80 (2'58"6 with last lap in
1'07"8)

I spoke with Meselech, and she told me that this year had the goal of 10000m after seeing the problems of Dibaba during Winter, and the fact that never she was able to win in the final sprint (something like Paula Radcliffe in the past). She looked me very slim, of sure in top shape, and with a big jump of mentality. Of sure, never I saw an athlete running in this way, completely alone.

Pätkä Melkamun juoksusta.
